Possibly related, it was MOTd last week and they said the DMF was lose and making a noise. I have an f-super so I can get figures from it including whilst driving (screen video capture!) and also maybe some video of the dash and maybe the odd clattering sound. On rare occasions the hunting behaviour doesn't happen, even over roads where it had previously and does subsequently (Tesco car park is a popular place for this to happen!). I cleaned the EGR when I had it (it was already clean, I mean really clean, light coating of soot) and it had an annual service at around the same time this all started happening (coincidence?). Given my costly experiance with the last TDCi I had (swarf in fuel, Delphi garage returned car after removing pump etc without the timing chain restraint (I decided to DIY the work rather than pay £1800), fricking nightmare, ended up selling it for salvage) I am somewhat paranoid I'm about to descend into hell again. When this happening during winter I figured it was just the timing sorting itself out, but it's 10c today and still doing it. Also when it starts from cold (first start of the day, not even freezing), it shudders and blows a stinky cloud of blue smoke, idles eratticaly for a second or two and then settles down. This is very consistent between say 11 RPM, above that it's absolutly fine and pulls like a rocket. I can only describe it as if the engine wasn't sure if you wanted to accelerate or not and it lurches between idle and you applying light pressure on the gas pedal (which I actually am), repeatedly, along with a clattering sound on each lurch (which I figure is the clutch?) from under the car somewhere. Around December/January it started to act oddly when you were just off idle but not really accelerating, sort of like assisted rolling (for example if you roll around a bend or around a car park).
